The Prospectus

In this conference, “Music Information in Asia and Advancement of International Collaboration: Searching the Music Source and Connecting the Music Libraries”, IAML and RILM join for the first time in Asia.  With support from academic societies in Japan or its own country, each organization has been working separately so far for collecting, preserving and referencing the information on music source, disseminating the information, and collaborating with their headquarters in Europe and the US. However, such activities tend to be shared among the related organizations only, and therefore no collaboration has been realized among Asian countries, even though they face the similar difficulties, for example, training experts of music source.

The aim of this conference is to invite speakers from the headquarters in the US and panelists from the Asian countries, who are working as specialists in musicology, philology, sociology, cultural policies, as well as librarians, to share the present situation and problems, and to discuss the issues together with all participants. By providing such a platform, we expect these national organizations and individual experts can create a meaningful tie among them and develop various levels of collaboration in future.
